Chemical Engineer - R&D

About the Role

Our client is seeking a creative and skilled Chemical Engineer to join their innovative Research & Development team in the esteemed academic and scientific hub of Cambridge . This role is focused on the early-stage development of novel chemical processes and technologies that will form the foundation for future product lines. You will be involved in lab-scale experimentation, process simulation, and pilot studies, working closely with chemists and material scientists to bring groundbreaking ideas to fruition. Key Responsibilities

• Design, conduct, and analyze experiments for the development of new chemical processes and synthesis routes.
• Utilize process simulation software to model and optimize potential process designs.
• Develop and scale-up laboratory procedures to pilot plant scale, troubleshooting any challenges encountered.
• Collaborate effectively with R&D chemists, materials scientists, and other engineers to achieve project objectives.
• Prepare technical reports, research summaries, and present findings to project teams and management.
• Evaluate new technologies and methodologies for potential application in process development.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field, with a strong academic record.
• Experience in process development, scale-up, or research engineering, preferably within an R&D context.
• Familiarity with chemical process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, Chemcad).
• Understanding of reaction engineering, separation processes, and thermodynamics.
• Experience in experimental design and data analysis is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with excellent communication skills.
