Chemical Process Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Chemical Process Design Engineer to join their forward-thinking team in Cambridge . This role embraces a hybrid work model, allowing for a dynamic blend of remote work and essential on-site presence for collaboration and design reviews. You will be instrumental in the conceptualization, design, and optimization of chemical processes for new and existing products. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in process design, simulation, and P&ID development, coupled with an innovative mindset. You will work closely with R&D, project management, and operations to translate laboratory findings into robust, scalable, and economically viable industrial processes, contributing to the company's commitment to cutting-edge chemical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual designs and detailed process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
• Perform mass and energy balance calculations for various chemical processes.
• Select and specify process equipment, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
• Utilize process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) to model and optimize process performance.
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and contribute to safety reviews.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptualization to commissioning.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering .
• 3-7 years of experience in chemical process design .
• Proficiency with process simulation tools and CAD software.
• Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
• Experience with P&ID development and equipment specification.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with effective communication for hybrid environments.
