About the Role
Our client, a globally recognized leader in pharmaceutical ingredients and specialty chemicals, is seeking a talented Chemical Process Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Cambridge . This role focuses on the conceptual design and detailed engineering of new chemical processes and facilities, ensuring they meet stringent quality, safety, and efficiency standards. You will play a key part in translating innovative research into robust, scalable manufacturing solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced design engineer to work on challenging projects within a dynamic and technologically advanced organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual designs for new chemical processes and plants, including PFDs and P&IDs.
- Perform process simulations and calculations to optimize designs for efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Specify major equipment, including reactors, distillation columns, heat exchangers, and pumps.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, operations, and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct design reviews and provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering .
- Significant experience (7+ years) in process design and engineering, preferably within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industries.
- Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, ChemCAD) and CAD tools.
- Strong understanding of unit operations , heat and mass transfer, and reaction engineering.
- Experience with HAZOP, LOPA, and other relevant safety assessment techniques.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project execution skills.
