Chemical Process Development Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a motivated Chemical Process Development Engineer to join their team in Stoke-on-Trent . This role is focused on the hands-on development and optimisation of chemical processes, from laboratory bench-scale experiments through to pilot plant trials and eventual commercialisation. You will work in a dynamic laboratory and pilot plant environment, collaborating with research chemists and other engineers to translate innovative chemical syntheses into robust, scalable manufacturing processes. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of bringing new chemical products to market and to gain comprehensive experience across the entire development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute laboratory experiments to evaluate and optimise chemical reaction conditions and separation techniques.
• Scale up processes from lab to pilot plant, troubleshooting issues and documenting results.
• Operate and maintain pilot plant equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
• Develop process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances, and equipment specifications.
• Analyse experimental data and generate detailed reports for process development activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, and safety departments.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry with significant process development experience.
• 2-5 years of experience in chemical process development, scale-up, or pilot plant operations.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory and pilot plant equipment.
• Understanding of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and separation processes.
• Proficiency in data analysis and technical report writing.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to experimental work.
