Chemical Process Engineer - Scale-Up Specialist

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a talented Chemical Process Engineer with a specialization in scale-up to join their dynamic operations in Birmingham . This pivotal role focuses on bridging the gap between laboratory research and full-scale industrial production, ensuring that new chemical processes are efficiently and safely translated to larger volumes. You will work closely with research chemists and plant engineers, providing critical process engineering expertise to drive successful project execution and commercialization. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver committed to technical excellence and collaborative innovation within a leading chemical manufacturing company.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the scale-up of chemical processes from pilot plant to commercial production, managing all engineering aspects.
• Develop detailed process designs, including P&IDs, mass and energy balances, and equipment specifications.
• Conduct hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) and risk assessments for new and modified processes.
• Optimize process parameters to maximize yield, minimize waste, and ensure consistent product quality.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during process commissioning and operation.
• Collaborate with procurement and project management teams on equipment selection, vendor management, and project timelines.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process engineering, with a significant focus on scale-up challenges.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement chemical processes in a manufacturing setting.
• Proficiency in process simulation software and statistical analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of chemical safety principles, including risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving capabilities.
