Civil Engineer - Drainage and Flood Risk

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialist Civil Engineer with expertise in drainage and flood risk assessment to join their team in Nottingham . This role is critical for developing sustainable drainage solutions (SuDS) and managing flood risk for new developments and existing infrastructure. You will be responsible for the detailed design of surface water management systems, contributing to resilient and environmentally sound projects across the region. Key Responsibilities

• Undertake detailed design of drainage systems, including foul water, surface water, and SuDS, in accordance with relevant standards.
• Conduct flood risk assessments (FRAs) and develop mitigation strategies for development sites.
• Prepare hydraulic calculations, drawings, and specifications for drainage infrastructure.
• Liaise with statutory bodies such as the Environment Agency and local Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs).
• Provide technical advice and support on drainage and flood risk matters to internal teams and external clients.
• Review designs and site progress related to drainage and earthworks elements.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with a focus on water engineering.
• Proven experience in drainage design and flood risk assessment .
• Proficiency in relevant design software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and hydraulic modelling tools (e.g., MicroDrainage, HEC-RAS).
• Good understanding of UK drainage legislation, Sewers for Adoption, and relevant guidance documents.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and report-writing abilities.
