Civil Engineer - Flood Defence & Coastal Projects

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialist Civil Engineer with expertise in flood defence and coastal engineering to join their established team in Bristol . This role is crucial for designing and overseeing projects that protect communities and infrastructure from the impacts of extreme weather and rising sea levels. You will be involved in the full project lifecycle, from initial feasibility studies and detailed design to construction oversight and asset management. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of flood defence structures, including embankments, walls, and barriers.
• Conduct hydraulic modelling and analysis for flood risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Develop designs for coastal protection measures, such as revetments, groynes, and breakwaters.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, and contract documents for flood defence and coastal projects.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, environmental agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project approvals and community engagement.
• Provide technical oversight during construction, ensuring adherence to design and quality standards.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in water resources, coastal, or environmental engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the ICE or equivalent professional qualification.
• Significant experience (7+ years) in the design and delivery of flood defence and coastal engineering projects.
• Proficiency in hydraulic modelling software (e.g., InfoWorks ICM, HEC-RAS) and relevant design tools.
• Strong understanding of coastal processes, sediment transport, and environmental impact assessment.
• Excellent project management and communication skills, with the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
