Civil Highways Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Civil Highways Engineer to join their reputable engineering firm in Reading . This role involves the design, planning, and project management of highway and transportation infrastructure projects across the Berkshire region and beyond. You will be responsible for creating efficient, safe, and sustainable road networks, from concept through to construction support. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a passion for transportation infrastructure to work on challenging projects and contribute to improving connectivity and mobility.

Key Responsibilities

• Design road alignments, junction improvements, drainage systems, and traffic management schemes for highway projects.
• Prepare technical designs, drawings, specifications, and contract documents in accordance with DMRB and other relevant standards.
• Conduct site visits and surveys to gather data and assess existing conditions.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, statutory undertakers, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to site queries and reviewing contractor submissions.
• Contribute to the preparation of bids and proposals for new highway projects.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience working on highway design and transportation infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and relevant highway design software (e.g., KeyBridges, KeySigns).
• Good knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and other UK highway standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
