Civil Project Engineer - Geotechnical & Tunnelling

Astute's Power team are looking to recruit a Civil Project Engineer - Geotechnical & Tunnelling on an project in North London on a long-term contract or permanent PAYE basis to start in August 2026.
Key skills

• Focus on the planning, coordination, and execution of tunnelling, shaft construction, underground structures, geotechnical works, and associated civil engineering activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.
• Support the planning and delivery of tunnelling, shaft sinking, underground structures, deep excavations, and geotechnical construction activities.
• Collaborate with design teams to develop practical and buildable engineering solutions for geotechnical and underground works.
• Review and coordinate geotechnical investigations, ground reports, construction methodologies, and design deliverables.
• Manage technical interfaces between tunnelling, civil, structural, and temporary works packages
• Coordinate specialist subcontractors involved in tunnelling, ground support, ground improvement, dewatering, excavation, and temporary works.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, and industry standards.

• Candidates must be degree qualified in either Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or similar.
• Must have experience in delivering large infrastructure, heavy civil, tunnelling or underground construction projects ideally within water, rail or utilities.
• Must have strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and tunnelling construction methods.
• Must have familiarity with temporary works management and construction teams.

• 12-18 months minimum
• 450.00 per day / 55,000 (DOE)
