About the Role
Our client seeks a diligent and customer-focused Claims Handler to manage personal lines insurance claims in their bustling Edinburgh office. This role is fundamental to providing excellent service to policyholders during what can be a stressful time. You will be responsible for managing claims from first notification through to settlement, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to company procedures and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, empathy, and a keen eye for detail, contributing positively to the team's success within a supportive office environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and log new insurance claims accurately via phone, email, or online portals.
- Assess policy coverage and liability, ensuring all claims are handled in accordance with policy terms.
- Communicate effectively with policyholders, third parties, and suppliers to gather information and provide updates.
- Process payments, manage claim files, and maintain accurate records in the claims management system.
- Negotiate settlements within authority limits and refer complex cases to senior handlers or management.
- Contribute to team targets and continuous improvement initiatives within the claims department.
Requirements
- Previous experience in an insurance claims handling role, preferably within personal lines (e.g., motor, home).
- Good understanding of insurance principles and claims processes.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail to manage multiple cases effectively.
- Proficiency with standard office software and claims handling systems.
