Commercial Finance & Operations Analyst

An established business in Plymouth is looking to appoint a commercially focused finance professional to join its finance team.

This is a broad analytical role working across finance, purchasing, operations and inventory. You will use financial and operational data to understand stock performance, investigate variances and provide analysis that supports commercial and operational decision-making.

The role would suit someone who enjoys working with data but also wants to understand what is happening within the wider business and contribute to improving processes and performance.

The Role

You will be responsible for analysing financial and operational information relating to stock, purchasing and business performance.

Key areas will include:

• Monitoring inventory levels, movements, ageing and performance.

• Reviewing stock data to identify variances, unusual movements and potential risks.

• Investigating discrepancies and working with relevant teams to understand the reasons behind them.

• Analysing the financial impact of inventory issues and identifying areas for improvement.

• Supporting forecasting and planning around stock requirements.

• Working with purchasing and operational teams to support effective stock management.

• Producing regular reports and analysis for finance and wider business stakeholders.

• Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial and inventory information.

• Supporting inventory valuation and associated financial reporting.

• Assisting with stock checks, reconciliations and periodic stock counts.

• Working with auditors and internal teams where required.

• Supporting improvements to financial controls, reporting and inventory processes.

• Providing wider commercial analysis and support to the finance team.

About You

You will have a strong finance background combined with good analytical and commercial awareness.

You will ideally have:

• Part-qualified accountant, AAT qualified or equivalent, with strong analytical and numerical skills.

• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets.

• Experience using Power BI or similar reporting and analytical tools.

• Experience working with accounting and/or ERP systems.

• Strong numerical and analytical skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to investigating information.

• The ability to identify trends and turn data into useful recommendations.

• Good communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues outside of finance.

• A practical and commercially minded approach.

• An interest in improving processes, controls and reporting.
