About the Role
Our client is seeking a seasoned Commercial Underwriter to join their thriving insurance operations in Coventry . In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, and pricing commercial insurance risks for Small to Medium Enterprises (SME), ensuring profitability and adherence to underwriting guidelines. You will work closely with brokers and agents, building strong relationships and providing expert advice on risk appetite and product offerings. This position offers the chance to significantly contribute to the company's growth and underwriting strategy within a key regional market, fostering a collaborative team environment focused on sound risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and underwrite new and renewal commercial insurance business, assessing risks and determining appropriate terms, conditions, and pricing.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents, understanding their needs and providing responsive service.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company strategy.
- Monitor portfolio performance, identifying trends and recommending adjustments to underwriting strategy as needed.
- Collaborate with claims, marketing, and product development teams to enhance the commercial insurance offering.
- Conduct detailed risk assessments, including reviewing financial statements, business operations, and historical loss data.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Commercial Underwriter , with a deep understanding of various business insurance products (e.g., liability, property, professional indemnity).
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and financial information.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, capable of building rapport with external partners.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the UK commercial insurance market and regulatory landscape.
- Possession of or working towards ACII qualification is advantageous.
- Ability to manage a demanding workload and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
