About the Role
Our client is actively searching for a highly skilled Computational Biologist to join their innovative R&D department in Birmingham . This role is crucial for integrating and analyzing large-scale biological datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, to uncover novel insights into disease pathways and identify potential therapeutic targets. You will collaborate closely with experimental biologists and data scientists to design and implement cutting-edge bioinformatics pipelines and analytical tools. This position offers an exciting chance to contribute to significant scientific discoveries within a dynamic and forward-thinking research environment, working remotely to drive advancements in precision medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data (e.g., RNA-Seq, WGS, ChIP-Seq).
- Perform complex statistical analyses and machine learning algorithms to identify patterns and generate hypotheses from diverse biological datasets.
- Collaborate with experimental teams to design studies, interpret results, and guide future research directions.
- Create visualizations and reports to effectively communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Contribute to the development and deployment of analytical tools and databases within a cloud computing environment.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R, including relevant bioinformatics libraries.
- Experience with common bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g., BLAST, Ensembl, TCGA).
- Demonstrated ability to work with large biological datasets and apply statistical and machine learning methods.
- Strong understanding of genomics, epigenomics, or proteomics, with excellent problem-solving skills .
