Conservation Architect

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Conservation Architect to join their specialist team in Portsmouth . This role is for an architect with a passion for preserving historical structures and working with heritage assets. You will be involved in the sensitive restoration, repair, and adaptation of listed buildings and historic sites across the UK . The practice is renowned for its expertise in heritage conservation, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to the protection and enhancement of the built historical environment within a supportive and knowledgeable team.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake condition surveys and prepare reports on historic buildings and heritage assets.
• Develop sensitive and appropriate conservation strategies and repair proposals.
• Produce detailed drawings and specifications for conservation and restoration projects.
• Liaise with heritage bodies, such as Historic England, Cadw, and Historic Environment Scotland, to secure necessary approvals.
• Manage conservation projects, ensuring adherence to conservation principles and best practices.
• Advise clients on matters related to historic building legislation, listing, and conservation grants.

Requirements

• Registered Architect with significant experience in conservation architecture.
• A postgraduate qualification in Building Conservation or a related field is highly desirable.
• Deep understanding of historic building materials, construction techniques, and conservation philosophy.
• Proficiency in architectural drawing software and the ability to produce accurate hand-drawn details.
• Experience working with listed buildings and within conservation areas across the UK .
• Strong report writing and communication skills for engaging with heritage stakeholders.
