About the Role
Our client, a significant player in the power generation industry , is seeking a skilled Control Systems Engineer to join their team in the heart of Cardiff . This role is crucial for maintaining and enhancing the sophisticated control systems that ensure the efficient and safe operation of our power plants. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of automation and control solutions, playing a vital part in optimising plant performance and reliability. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement control system software and hardware for power generation equipment.
- Program and configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Conduct system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for control system failures.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including logic diagrams, P&IDs, and user manuals.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to optimise system performance and implement upgrades.
- Ensure all control systems comply with safety regulations and industry best practices.
Requirements
- Degree in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in control systems engineering , preferably within the power generation or process industries.
- Proficiency in programming languages for PLCs and DCS (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram).
- Experience with SCADA system configuration and HMI development.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
