About the Role
Our client, a forward-thinking legal practice in Edinburgh , is seeking an accomplished Data Protection Lawyer to lead their growing privacy and data security practice. This role involves advising clients across diverse sectors on compliance with GDPR, the UK Data Protection Act, and other relevant privacy regulations. You will be instrumental in developing data protection strategies, conducting data privacy impact assessments, and managing data breach incidents. This is a key position for a lawyer passionate about navigating the complex and evolving landscape of data privacy, offering significant client interaction and the chance to shape legal services in this critical area.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise clients on compliance with GDPR, UK Data Protection Act 2018, and other global privacy laws.
- Develop and implement data protection policies, procedures, and training programs for clients.
- Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
- Advise on data subject rights requests, data transfers, and third-party data processing agreements.
- Manage and advise on data breach response and notification procedures.
- Stay current with legislative changes and provide proactive advice on emerging privacy risks.
Requirements
- Qualified Lawyer with at least 5 years' experience in data protection and privacy law.
- In-depth knowledge of GDPR, UK DPA 2018, and international privacy frameworks.
- Experience in advising on data breach management and incident response.
- Familiarity with data processing agreements and international data transfer mechanisms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commercially astute approach.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
