Location: Barnsley Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 per annum Hours: 7:30am–4:30pm Monday to Thursday; 7:30am–1:30pm Friday

Travis Talent is recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business in Barnsley for a Design Engineer to join its team.

This is an opportunity to see your designs through from initial concept to the production floor. You’ll develop jigs, fixtures and bespoke equipment that improve manufacturing processes, working closely with production and engineering colleagues to deliver practical, robust solutions.

The role

*

Design and develop jigs, fixtures and bespoke manufacturing equipment using 3D and 2D CAD.

*

Manage projects through design, manufacture, commissioning and production trials.

*

Produce detailed drawings, bills of materials and equipment user documentation.

*

Improve existing tooling and fixtures to support quality, efficiency and ease of manufacture.

*

Work with product design engineers to improve component fit-up and suitability for automation.

*

Develop calibration and maintenance requirements for new and existing jigs and fixtures.

*

Coordinate with external design and manufacturing suppliers to deliver projects on time.

*

Maintain accurate design records and manage changes through established engineering procedures.

About you

*

A degree in Mechanical Engineering, or an HND with relevant experience.

*

Experience using 3D and 2D CAD, ideally Creo or an equivalent package.

*

A design background involving jigs, fixtures or manufacturing tooling.

*

An understanding of manufacturing processes such as fabrication, welding, machining, forming and assembly.

*

A practical approach to problem-solving, with attention to quality, cost and reliability.

*

Good communication and organisation skills, with the ability to work closely with colleagues and suppliers.

Experience in fabrication design or automated and semi-automated manufacturing would be an advantage.
