PW Construction Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Design Manager to join a specialist engineering business delivering data centre and critical infrastructure projects.
This opportunity would suit a Design Manager or senior engineering professional with a strong M&E / Building Services background and experience coordinating multidisciplinary design on technically demanding projects.
Based from the Manchster offices, you will take ownership of design delivery from tender and pre-construction through design development, construction, commissioning and handover.
The Role
You will ensure design information is coordinated, compliant, buildable and delivered in line with programme and commercial requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
*
Managing the Design Management Plan, design programme, responsibilities matrix and information schedules.
*
Coordinating internal designers, external consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
*
Managing design scopes, deliverables, interfaces, quality and performance.
*
Leading design review meetings and tracking actions, technical queries and approvals through to completion.
*
Reviewing designs against client requirements, specifications and relevant standards.
*
Resolving interfaces between mechanical, electrical and other building systems.
*
Monitoring progress, resources, risks and design changes, highlighting impacts on cost, procurement and programme.
*
Supporting procurement, construction, commissioning and final design close-out.
The role focuses on managing and assuring design delivery. You will need sufficient technical understanding to review and challenge specialist proposals, with detailed engineering design undertaken by the relevant designers.
Candidate Requirements
Candidates should have substantial experience managing multidisciplinary M&E design, including internal teams and external consultants.
You will need broad mechanical and electrical knowledge, covering power distribution, standby generation, UPS, cooling, ventilation, fire systems and controls. An understanding of spatial coordination, resilience, redundancy and maintainability is also important.
Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills are essential, alongside experience managing design programmes, information deliverables, technical risk and change.
Data centre experience is highly desirable. Candidates with relevant experience in other critical environments, including healthcare, pharmaceutical or industrial facilities, will also be considered.
A relevant engineering, building services or construction management qualification is expected. Chartered status or progress towards professional accreditation would be advantageous.
You should be proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with AutoCAD, Revit and BIM workflows.
Candidates must be able to work from Oldham and undertake UK and occasional European travel.
Package & Opportunity
The position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, depending on experience, together with professional training and long-term career development.
You will join a growing international business and take responsibility for design delivery on complex data centre and critical infrastructure projects.
