About the Role

Our client, a leading professional sports organization in Reading , is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Director of Sports Science and Medicine . This executive leadership role is responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive, integrated sports science and medicine program designed to optimize athlete health, performance, and longevity. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, including physiotherapists, strength and conditioning coaches, nutritionists, and sports scientists, ensuring best practices are implemented across all areas. This is a pivotal role for an individual passionate about athlete welfare and performance at the elite level, driving innovation and excellence within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic development, implementation, and management of the sports science and medicine program for all athletes.
• Oversee and direct a multidisciplinary team of sports scientists, medical professionals, and performance coaches.
• Ensure the highest standards of athlete care, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement.
• Develop and implement evidence-based protocols for athlete monitoring, testing, and data analysis.
• Manage the departmental budget, resource allocation, and external partnerships with healthcare providers and research institutions.
• Collaborate closely with coaching staff, management, and medical personnel to align programs with organizational goals.
• Stay at the forefront of advancements in sports science and medicine, driving research and innovation within the department.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Medicine, or a related field.
• Extensive experience (10+ years) in sports science and medicine at the elite level, with significant leadership and management responsibility.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing successful athlete health and performance programs.
• In-depth knowledge of physiological testing, injury rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and nutrition principles.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams effectively.
• Professional accreditation with a recognized governing body (e.g., BASRaT, UKSCA) is highly desirable.
