Drilling Fluids Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proficient Drilling Fluids Engineer to join their operations team supporting projects in the Reading area and beyond. This role is fundamental to optimizing drilling performance, ensuring wellbore stability, and managing the effective use of drilling fluid systems in the Oil & Gas industry . You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring drilling fluid programs, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring cost-effectiveness and environmental compliance. This is a key technical position for an individual passionate about drilling operations and fluid mechanics.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and recommend appropriate drilling fluid systems based on geological conditions and drilling objectives.
• Supervise the mixing and circulation of drilling fluids, ensuring they meet required specifications.
• Monitor drilling fluid properties and performance, making adjustments as necessary.
• Troubleshoot drilling fluid-related problems such as lost circulation, stuck pipe, and formation damage.
• Manage inventory and procurement of drilling fluid additives and chemicals.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations for drilling fluid disposal.
• Prepare daily drilling fluid reports and provide technical recommendations to the drilling team.
• Collaborate with geologists and drilling engineers to optimize wellbore stability and drilling efficiency.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Drilling Fluids Engineer or in a related mud engineering role within the Oil & Gas sector .
• Strong understanding of drilling fluid chemistry, rheology, and additives.
• Knowledge of drilling operations and wellbore mechanics.
• Ability to work effectively on location and under pressure.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with fluid sampling and laboratory testing procedures.
• Based in or able to commute to the Reading area for operational support.
