Drug Safety Physician - Pharmaceutical

About the Role

Our client seeks a qualified and experienced Drug Safety Physician to join their dynamic medical team in Edinburgh . This senior role is central to ensuring the safety and risk management of the company's pharmaceutical products throughout their lifecycle. You will provide medical expertise in the evaluation of adverse event data, contribute to safety reporting, and play a crucial role in maintaining regulatory compliance. This position is ideal for a physician with a strong background in pharmacovigilance who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about patient safety within the pharmaceutical sector .

Key Responsibilities

• Provide medical assessment of adverse event reports, determining seriousness and causality.
• Contribute medical expertise to safety database activities, aggregate reports (e.g., PBRERs, DSURs), and risk management plans.
• Act as a medical expert for pharmacovigilance-related queries from internal teams and external regulatory authorities.
• Review and interpret clinical trial data and post-marketing surveillance data from a safety perspective.
• Participate in safety committee meetings and provide medical input on product safety profiles.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of pharmacovigilance policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Medical Doctor (MD) or equivalent medical degree.
• Board certification or eligibility in a relevant specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Neurology) preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in drug safety , pharmacovigilance, or clinical development within the pharmaceutical industry .
• Strong understanding of global regulatory requirements for pharmacovigilance.
• Excellent medical judgment, analytical skills, and ability to communicate complex medical information.
• Experience working with safety databases and medical coding dictionaries (e.g., MedDRA).
