Early Years SEND Support Assistant

About the Role

Our client is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Early Years SEND Support Assistant to join their inclusive childcare setting in Reading . In this vital role, you will provide tailored support to young children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning and thrive alongside their peers. You will work closely with the nursery team, parents, and external specialists to implement individualised support plans. This is a fulfilling opportunity for someone passionate about inclusive education and making a real difference to the lives of children with additional needs in Berkshire .

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one or small group support to children with SEND, implementing agreed strategies and interventions.
• Assist children in accessing all areas of the curriculum, adapting activities as necessary.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Support children's social, emotional, and behavioural development, promoting positive interactions.
• Maintain accurate records of children's progress, observations, and interventions.
• Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all children.

Requirements

• Previous experience working with children with SEND in an early years setting.
• Understanding of child development and the challenges faced by children with SEND.
• Knowledge of the EYFS framework and inclusive practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with patience and empathy.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
• Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 in SEND support, Teaching Assistant) are highly desirable.
