Electrical Engineer - Industrial Automation

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and skilled Electrical Engineer to join their robust engineering team in Belfast , specializing in industrial automation. This role is essential for designing, implementing, and maintaining the electrical control systems that drive our client's manufacturing processes and operational efficiency. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of all electrical aspects within the facility. This is a hands-on position for an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem-solving, working directly on the factory floor, and contributing to the smooth operation of complex industrial machinery in a challenging yet rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical control panels, schematics, and wiring diagrams for automated machinery and systems.
• Implement and troubleshoot PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) applications.
• Perform electrical system installations, commissioning, and modifications, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
• Conduct regular preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on electrical equipment and control systems.
• Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to identify areas for automation improvement and efficiency gains.
• Ensure all electrical work adheres to relevant industry standards, such as BS 7671 and ATEX directives.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant HND/HNC qualification.
• Proven experience as an Electrical Engineer with a focus on industrial automation and control systems.
• Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and HMI software.
• Strong understanding of electrical safety standards, motor control, and variable speed drives.
• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach.
