Electrical Engineer - Outside IR35

I'm currently supporting an innovative UAV/UAS start-up that is developing cutting-edge autonomous air systems for defence and commercial applications. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an Electrical Engineer to join their engineering team and play a key role in the development of next-generation uncrewed aircraft.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced start-up environment, where they can have a genuine impact on product development and see their work progress from concept through to flight testing and deployment.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop and integrate electrical systems for UAV platforms. Support the development of aircraft electrical architectures and power distribution systems. Design and review PCB layouts and electronic assemblies. Develop and integrate cable harnesses and wiring looms. Support avionics integration and system testing activities. Integrate mission payloads including sensors, cameras and communications equipment. Support system verification, troubleshooting and fault-finding activities. Work closely with mechanical, software and systems engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle. Participate in ground and flight test activities where required.

Experience Required

Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline. Experience developing electrical/electronic systems within a highly regulated or high-performance engineering environment. Knowledge of PCB design and development. Experience with cable harness and electrical integration activities. Strong understanding of electrical schematics and technical documentation. Hands-on approach with experience supporting testing and integration.

Desirable Experience

Previous UAV/UAS or aerospace experience. Avionics design and integration. Payload or sensor integration. Power generation and power management systems. Battery systems and power distribution architectures. Experience working on aircraft, drones, robotics, marine autonomy or defence platforms. Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN Bus, Ethernet or Serial interfaces.

What's on Offer?

Opportunity to join a rapidly growing UAV business at an exciting stage of development. Exposure to cutting-edge autonomous and aerospace technologies. Broad engineering responsibility across the full product lifecycle. Flexible and collaborative working environment. Genuine opportunity to influence future platform development. If you're an Electrical Engineer with experience in aerospace, UAVs, defence, robotics or complex electronics integration and are looking for a role where you can make a significant technical impact, I'd be keen to speak with you
