Electronics Engineer Cambridge | On site £50k + package
Do you get a buzz from solving complex and diverse engineering problems? Want your work to end up in medical devices that make a real difference to patients?
We’re looking for an Electronics Engineer to join a specialist product development consultancy in Cambridgeshire, working on medical and healthcare technology for clients from early-stage start-ups through to global names.
This is a hands-on role, designing hardware for medium and high-volume manufacture. You’ll own electronic designs at both system and circuit level, taking them from first concept through prototyping, debug and verification, and into production. You’ll work in well-equipped labs and workshops, alongside engineers from other disciplines where peer review is part of the culture, and you’ll see how each project makes different demands on the design. With a different client and a new technical challenge every few months, you’ll never be doing the same thing twice.
This an opportunity for an electronics engineer who is keen to step into a role where they can grow both their technical and commercial experience. You may be somebody who has stepped out of their degree/masters with some successful internships under your belt looking for your first position, or ~2/3 years post grad looking to take on more ownership and propel your career forward.
What You’ll Bring
Ideally some commercial experience (~2 years) designing electronic hardware that has gone beyond the bench, but the very minumum a good degree in electronics, electrical engineering, physics or a similar discipline Experience with a professional electronics CAD package (Altium preferred) Practical, hands-on skills in building, modifying and troubleshooting prototypes, with ease using standard lab test equipment A broad awareness of what’s current in electronics technology and manufacturing methods A methodical approach to problem-solving, backed by clear, well-organised design documentation Strong communication skills, comfortable explaining technical points to engineers and non-engineers alike Willingness to travel occasionally to client and supplier sites, in the UK and abroadAlso Valued
Exposure to adjacent areas such as optics, embedded software or signal processing FPGA / programmable logic development Python for scripting and test automation Experience in a regulated environment, particularly medical device quality and safety standardsIf you want varied, technically demanding work, a team that shares knowledge freely, and designs that make a real difference, this could be the role for you.
Not local to Cambridge? There is the option for relocation support with this role (within the UK).
