Energy Policy Advisor

About the Role

Our client, a respected think tank focused on sustainable development, is seeking an experienced Energy Policy Advisor to join their dedicated team in Edinburgh . This vital role involves researching, analysing, and shaping energy policy recommendations to influence governmental and industry decisions towards a sustainable energy future. As this role requires significant engagement with policymakers, industry leaders, and participation in high-level meetings, it is an on-site position. You will contribute to critical debates on energy security, climate change mitigation, and the economic implications of energy policy, working from our well-equipped Edinburgh office.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth research and analysis on current and emerging energy policies, regulations, and market trends.
• Develop evidence-based policy recommendations and strategic advice for government bodies, industry stakeholders, and the public.
• Prepare policy briefs, reports, consultation responses, and presentations on complex energy issues.
• Engage with policymakers, regulators, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to advocate for policy positions.
• Monitor legislative developments and their potential impact on the energy sector.
• Organise and facilitate workshops, seminars, and public consultations on energy policy topics.

Requirements

• A postgraduate degree in Public Policy, Environmental Policy, Economics, Law, or a related field.
• Significant experience (5+ years) in energy policy analysis, research, or advisory roles, preferably within government, consultancy, or a research institution.
• Deep understanding of UK and European energy policy frameworks, climate change targets, and energy systems.
• Excellent analytical, research, writing, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and influence policy debates.
• Experience in managing policy research projects and working collaboratively in a team environment.
