Energy Trader - Power Markets

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and results-driven Energy Trader to join their trading floor in Belfast . This critical role involves actively trading electricity and related derivatives across various European power markets. You will be responsible for developing and executing trading strategies, managing risk exposure, and optimising the company's energy portfolio to achieve profitability targets. The successful candidate will possess a keen market insight, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to make quick, decisive trading actions in a dynamic environment. This is a high-stakes position within a leading energy trading firm.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement profitable trading strategies for the European power markets.
• Monitor market movements, news, and macroeconomic factors influencing energy prices.
• Manage the company's trading positions and associated risks within defined risk limits.
• Execute trades efficiently and accurately through various trading platforms.
• Analyse trading performance and provide reports on market insights and strategy effectiveness.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Proven track record (minimum 3 years) as an energy trader or in a similar trading role within financial markets.
• Deep understanding of wholesale electricity markets, including supply/demand fundamentals and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with strong decision-making abilities under pressure.
• Proficiency with trading platforms and risk management systems.
