Substance Use Team Leader

SSJ&I Alcohol & Drug Service / Associated Outreach Services

Hampshire

37 hours per week (Full-Time, Permanent)

Salary Scale: 31 - 33 (£36,139 - £38,301 per annum)

About Us

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic Charity and Housing Association. The Society of St James (SSJ) has been working in Hampshire for over 50 years, delivering high impact, person-centred, accommodation services to adults and young people experiencing homelessness, problematic substance use and mental health problems. We believe that every person is of worth and we are prepared to take risks to house and support the most at risk and socially excluded members of society.

The Impact You'll Make

As a Substance Use Team Leader, you will collaboratively lead a dynamic team in delivering a safe, creative, and service-user-led treatment experience. Working as part of the Adult Alcohol and Drug Service management structure and alongside clinical partners such as the NHS Inclusion Prescribing Team, you will manage operational governance, oversee staff caseloads, and champion trauma-informed harm reduction interventions. Your leadership will directly support individuals with complex needs, problematic substance use, and mental ill-health to rebuild resilience, achieve their recovery goals, and successfully integrate into the community.

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking an innovative, open, and decisive leader who embodies trauma-informed practice and thrives in a multi-agency environment. You will be an empathetic team player and excel at building trusting, respectful relationships with staff, partners, and service users alike. If you are self-reflective, deeply motivated, highly accountable, and passionate about promoting harm reduction and social inclusion for marginalised groups, we would love to hear from you.

Working Pattern: Standard daytime hours with flexibility required for occasional evenings & weekends

Essential Skills and Qualities

• Team Leadership & Development: Proven experience of managing staff, delivering high-quality supervision and appraisals, coaching, and nurturing a supportive, learning-oriented team culture.

• Safeguarding & Risk Management: Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment, risk management planning, and safeguarding procedures for adults and children.
• Multi-Agency & Partnership Working: Track record of effective collaboration with statutory and voluntary partners, including health, housing, probation, and criminal justice agencies.
• Operational & Financial Oversight: Experience in budget oversight, local governance protocol production, IT literacy, and accurate case management record-keeping.
