Environmental Scientist - Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Environmental Scientist to join their team based in Southampton , Hampshire . This role is crucial for ensuring our mining operations meet all environmental regulations and sustainability goals. You will be responsible for conducting environmental impact assessments, developing mitigation strategies, and monitoring environmental performance. This is an on-site role requiring regular site visits to operations and close collaboration with project teams to minimize environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for new mining projects and expansions.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans, including water management, waste disposal, and land reclamation.
• Monitor air, water, and soil quality at mine sites and report on findings.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and deliver environmental training programs for site personnel.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the local community on environmental matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and permitting processes in the UK.
• Experience with environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to site-based work.
