Environmental Scientist - Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Environmental Scientist specializing in the mining sector to join their team in Glasgow, Scotland, UK . This critical role focuses on ensuring that mining operations are conducted in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner, complying with all relevant regulations. You will be responsible for conducting environmental impact assessments, developing mitigation strategies, and monitoring ecological health around mining sites. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for new and existing mining projects.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans, including water management, waste disposal, and land reclamation strategies.
• Monitor air quality, water quality, and biodiversity at mine sites, collecting and analyzing relevant data.
• Ensure compliance with national and local environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
• Advise operational teams on best practices for environmental protection and pollution prevention.
• Prepare environmental reports and engage with regulatory agencies and community groups.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in environmental assessment and management, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks applicable to mining operations.
• Experience with environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• Proficiency in environmental modeling software and GIS is desirable.
