Estate Grounds Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly organized and experienced Estate Grounds Manager to oversee the extensive grounds of a prestigious estate in Portsmouth . This role demands a blend of horticultural expertise, landscape management skills, and strong leadership capabilities. You will be responsible for the maintenance, development, and preservation of all outdoor areas, including gardens, parkland, sports fields, and woodlands, ensuring they are kept to the highest standards. The successful candidate will manage a team, plan long-term maintenance strategies, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of all groundskeeping activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive grounds maintenance plans, covering all aspects from horticultural care to large-scale landscaping.
• Manage, train, and motivate a team of groundskeepers, gardeners, and maintenance staff.
• Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all groundskeeping machinery and equipment.
• Manage the grounds budget, including expenditure on materials, equipment, and staffing.
• Ensure all grounds-related activities comply with health and safety regulations and environmental best practices.
• Plan and execute seasonal planting, tree care, turf management, and any new landscaping projects.

Requirements

• Significant experience in grounds management, estate management, or a similar leadership role in horticulture/landscaping.
• A relevant qualification in Horticulture, Arboriculture, or a related field is highly preferred.
• Proven ability to manage a diverse team and delegate tasks effectively.
• Strong understanding of horticultural practices, turf management, arboriculture, and pest/disease control.
• Experience in budget management and resource allocation.
• Proficiency with grounds maintenance equipment and machinery.
