Fiber Optic Technician

About the Role

Our client is looking for a diligent and skilled Fiber Optic Technician to join their operational team, working across the Derby area with a hybrid approach that balances site work with home-based administrative tasks. This role is crucial for the deployment, maintenance, and repair of our client's fiber optic network infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and performance of the physical network, working with the latest tools and technologies in the telecoms field. This position requires a hands-on attitude and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, splice, and terminate fiber optic cables in various environments (underground, aerial, indoor).
• Perform testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic links using specialized equipment (e.g., OTDR, fusion splicer).
• Diagnose and repair faults within the fiber optic network, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Read and interpret network diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation.
• Assist in the planning and execution of network upgrades and extensions.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including test results and completed installations.
• Adhere to safety protocols and best practices for fiber optic installation and maintenance.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Fiber Optic Technician or in a related role is essential.
• Proficiency in using fiber optic testing equipment and splicing techniques.
• Understanding of fiber optic network principles and cable management.
• Ability to work effectively both independently on-site and manage administrative tasks remotely in a hybrid model.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• A full UK driving license is required for travel to various work locations.
