Field Service Technician (Automation)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Field Service Technician with a specialization in Automation to join their Installation & Maintenance team in Oxford . This role is critical for deploying, maintaining, and repairing sophisticated automated systems used by various industries. You will be responsible for ensuring the uptime and optimal performance of these complex machines at client sites across the region, providing both reactive support and proactive maintenance. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a technically adept individual passionate about automation technology in the Oxfordshire area.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and test automated machinery and control systems.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and calibration of automation equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and software faults in automated systems.
• Provide technical support and training to client personnel on system operation and basic maintenance.
• Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and PLC logic.
• Maintain detailed service reports and manage inventory of spare parts.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Field Service Technician , preferably with a focus on automation or industrial control systems.
• Strong understanding of PLCs, HMI, robotics, and industrial networking.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Relevant engineering qualifications (e.g., HNC/HND in Engineering or related field).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously.
• Must possess a valid driving license and be prepared for frequent travel to customer sites.
