Financial Controller

About the Role

Our client, a prominent business operating in Newcastle upon Tyne , is looking for a seasoned Financial Controller to lead their finance department. This senior position demands a proactive approach to managing all financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. You will play a crucial role in safeguarding the company's assets and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will contribute to the strategic direction of the company by providing critical financial insights and leadership, fostering a culture of accountability and operational excellence within the finance function and across the wider organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of statutory financial statements and management accounts.
• Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to mitigate financial risks.
• Oversee the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing variance analysis and strategic recommendations.
• Liaise with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within financial processes and systems.

Requirements

• ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience.
• Demonstrated experience in a Financial Controller or similar senior accounting role.
• In-depth knowledge of UK GAAP/IFRS and corporate tax legislation.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate a finance team.
• Exceptional analytical skills and a keen eye for detail, particularly in financial reporting for Newcastle upon Tyne operations.
