Forestry Operations Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Forestry Operations Manager to oversee their forestry operations in and around Leeds . This role requires a blend of strategic planning, operational execution, and team leadership to ensure the efficient and sustainable management of forest resources. You will be responsible for everything from harvesting and silviculture planning to regulatory compliance and budget management. This hybrid role allows for strategic planning and management activities from a home office, while requiring regular on-site presence to direct field operations and engage with teams and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be a pragmatic leader committed to maximizing forest productivity while upholding environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement annual operating plans for timber harvesting, reforestation, and forest health monitoring.
• Manage budgets, resources, and personnel to achieve operational targets efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations, forestry standards, and safety protocols.
• Supervise field crews, contractors, and equipment operators, providing clear direction and support to ensure high-quality work execution.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Oversee inventory management, logistics, and the sale of timber and other forest products.

Requirements

• Degree in Forestry, Forest Management, or a related field.
• Significant experience in forest operations management, including harvesting, silviculture, and resource planning.
• Strong understanding of forest ecology, sustainable forestry principles, and relevant legislation.
• Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and direct diverse teams.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience with financial management and contract negotiation.
