About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Forestry Operations Manager to oversee their extensive woodland estates near Milton Keynes . This crucial role involves managing all aspects of forestry operations, from sustainable harvesting and silviculture to conservation efforts and site safety. You will lead a team of forestry professionals, ensuring that operations are conducted efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with environmental regulations. This is an on-site position demanding strong leadership and a deep understanding of forest management principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic forest management plans , including planting, thinning, and harvesting schedules.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
- Manage and supervise forestry crews, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure strict compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting regular site inspections and risk assessments.
- Monitor forest health, biodiversity, and the impact of operations on the local ecosystem.
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth operational flow.
Requirements
- Degree in Forestry, Forest Management, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in forestry operations management, with a proven track record of leading teams.
- In-depth knowledge of silvicultural practices , timber harvesting techniques, and woodland conservation.
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation relevant to forestry operations.
- Proficiency in using GIS software and other relevant forest inventory tools.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
