Forestry Operations Manager

About the Role

Our client seeks a strategic and hands-on Forestry Operations Manager to oversee their extensive forest estates in and around Manchester . This leadership role is critical for ensuring the sustainable management, development, and harvesting of timber resources. You will be responsible for directing all aspects of forest operations, from planning and silviculture to timber extraction and environmental compliance. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of forestry principles, excellent logistical skills, and a strong commitment to conservation and responsible resource management.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement long-term forest management plans, including afforestation and reforestation programs.
• Supervise all field operations, including timber harvesting, planting, and tending activities.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and forestry standards.
• Manage budgets, resources, and operational staff effectively to achieve targets.
• Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, including landowners, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

Requirements

• Degree in Forestry, Forest Management, or a related environmental science.
• Proven experience in managing large-scale forestry operations, with a strong track record in silviculture and harvesting.
• In-depth knowledge of forest ecology, sustainable forestry practices, and timber assessment.
• Excellent leadership, project management, and negotiation skills.
• Valid UK driving license and ability to travel regularly across forest sites.
