About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Forestry Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of forest management and timber harvesting operations in and around the London region. You will be responsible for ensuring sustainable forest practices, managing a dedicated team, and coordinating with stakeholders to meet operational and environmental objectives. This is a critical role for an individual passionate about land stewardship and efficient resource management within the dynamic UK forestry sector, contributing to the long-term health and productivity of valuable woodland resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive forest management plans, including harvesting, reforestation, and conservation strategies.
- Supervise and coordinate field crews, contractors, and equipment operators, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational efficiency.
- Monitor forest health, biodiversity, and environmental impact, implementing mitigation measures as necessary.
- Manage budgets, procurement, and logistics for all forestry operations, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, landowners, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance and foster positive relationships.
- Maintain detailed records of operations, timber yields, and environmental data for reporting purposes.
Requirements
- Proven experience in forest management, with a strong understanding of silviculture and timber harvesting techniques.
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with experience supervising diverse workforces.
- Knowledge of UK forestry regulations, environmental legislation, and sustainable forestry certifications.
- Proficiency in GIS software and other relevant land management technologies.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
