Forestry Surveyor

About the Role

Our client is looking for a meticulous Forestry Surveyor to join their team in Edinburgh . This role is crucial for accurately measuring and mapping forest resources, ensuring precise data for inventory, management, and valuation purposes. You will utilize advanced surveying techniques and equipment to collect detailed information on timber volumes, forest boundaries, and topographical features, playing an integral part in the planning and execution of forestry operations and land management strategies, while contributing to the efficient utilization and sustainable development of forest assets.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct forest surveys using GPS, GIS, laser scanning, and other modern surveying technologies.
• Measure and estimate timber volumes, tree heights, and stand density.
• Map forest boundaries, compartments, and relevant topographical features.
• Prepare accurate survey reports, maps, and spatial data for management planning.
• Maintain and calibrate surveying equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Assist in the planning and marking of harvesting coupes and regeneration areas.

Requirements

• HND or equivalent qualification in Forestry, Surveying, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a forestry surveyor or in a similar land surveying role.
• Proficiency with forestry surveying equipment, including GPS, total stations, and GIS software.
• Strong understanding of forest mensuration and inventory techniques.
• Ability to interpret aerial photographs and maps.
• Good physical fitness and willingness to work in various outdoor conditions.
