Formulation Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a creative and experienced Formulation Scientist to join their Product Development department in Derby . This role is crucial in designing, developing, and optimizing novel pharmaceutical dosage forms to meet specific therapeutic and patient needs. You will work in a well-equipped laboratory, translating scientific concepts into tangible drug products, from pre-formulation studies through to supporting clinical trial material manufacturing. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of pharmaceutical sciences, material science, and drug delivery technologies, contributing to the innovation pipeline of life-saving medicines, based in Derbyshire.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop innovative pharmaceutical formulations for various routes of administration (e.g., oral, parenteral, topical).
• Conduct pre-formulation studies, including physicochemical characterization of APIs and excipients.
• Optimize formulations to achieve desired stability, bioavailability, and release profiles.
• Scale up formulation processes from laboratory to pilot and manufacturing scale, collaborating with manufacturing teams.
• Develop and validate analytical methods for testing drug product quality attributes.
• Prepare technical reports, contribute to regulatory filings, and present findings to internal teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development .
• In-depth knowledge of drug delivery systems, excipient functionality, and dosage form design.
• Hands-on experience with formulation development equipment and analytical techniques (e.g., dissolution, particle size analysis, DSC).
• Understanding of GMP requirements for pharmaceutical product development and manufacturing.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent laboratory and documentation skills .
