Founding Digital Editor - Audience & Growth - REMOTE

Our client, Relevant Media, is looking for an ambitious Founding Digital Editor - Audience & Growth to take ownership of one of its newer publications, Talking.Business, and help build it from the ground up. This isn't simply a content writing role. They're looking for someone who can take ownership of the publication's editorial output and, importantly, grow the audience around it. You'll be writing and editing content, but you'll also be expected to understand what's working, what's driving traffic and where the opportunities for growth are.

The Role

You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day editorial and audience growth of Talking.Business. This will include:

• Writing and publishing engaging global business news, features and other editorial content
• Developing and managing the editorial calendar
• Identifying stories, topics and trends worth covering
• Applying strong SEO principles to everything published
• Using Google Analytics and Google Search Console to understand performance and identify opportunities
• Monitoring traffic, rankings and audience growth
• Using performance data to continually improve the content strategy
• Growing the publication's presence across relevant social media channels
• Distributing content effectively rather than simply publishing and waiting for people to find it
• Helping grow the email/newsletter audience
• Editing content from contributors and freelance writers as the publication grows
• Identifying new opportunities for traffic, backlinks, partnerships and exposure
• Helping shape the wider editorial and growth strategy for Talking.Business Who They're Looking For They're looking for an all-rounder who understands modern digital publishing. You'll need to be a strong writer and editor, but just as importantly, you should understand how digital publications actually grow. You should be comfortable looking at analytics and asking: What's driving our traffic? Which articles are performing? What are people searching for? Where are we gaining visibility? What's not working? What should we be publishing more of? How can we turn first-time visitors into regular readers? You should have a good working knowledge of:
• SEO and keyword research
• Google Analytics
• Google Search Console
• Content strategy
• Social media and content distribution
• Audience development
• Digital publishing
• Global business news and current affairs Experience working for an online publication, news website, business publication or content-led digital brand would be particularly valuable. What Success Looks Like Success won't simply be measured by how many articles are published. Relevant Media wants to see Talking.Business building an audience. That means increasing organic search traffic, growing overall readership, attracting returning visitors, building the newsletter audience, increasing social reach and continually improving the performance of the content. You'll have access to the data and the freedom to use it. They're looking for someone who will bring ideas, identify opportunities and make recommendations - not someone waiting to be told what article to write next. The Opportunity Talking.Business is still at an early stage, which means you'll have the opportunity to play a major role in shaping what it becomes. There isn't a rigid editorial machine for you to step into. You'll be helping to build it. If you're excited by the idea of taking a publication from a small starting point and growing it into a recognised destination for global business news and content, we'd like to hear from you. To apply, please send your CV along with a short introduction explaining how you would approach growing a digital publication from the ground up
