Job Description
My client is a well-established provider of power generation solutions across Ireland and the UK, supporting customers across construction, manufacturing, retail, hospitality, education, waste management, traffic management and the equipment hire sector.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Generator Service Engineer to join their expanding team, covering the Leinster and Munster regions.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Generator Engineer looking to join a growing business, with the chance to work on a technically diverse range of generator systems, engines and control technologies.
The RoleAs a Generator Service Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the installation, servicing, maintenance, fault finding and repair of generator systems across customer sites.
You’ll work closely with customers and the wider service team, while also having the autonomy to manage your own workload and complete jobs independently.
The role offers excellent technical variety, with engineers working across equipment from 9kVA through to 16MW and a wide range of leading engine and generator manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out planned and reactive servicing and maintenance of generator systems
Complete oil and filter changes, along with oil, fuel and coolant sampling
Carry out load bank testing on customer-owned generator sets
Diagnose and fault find complex mechanical and electrical issues
Work across a wide range of engine and generator manufacturers, including Cummins, Perkins, Caterpillar, John Deere, Volvo, Scania, Iveco, Dorman and Yanmar
Work independently on generator systems ranging from 9kVA to 16MW
Complete mechanical and electrical repairs and component replacement
Diagnose and repair fuel systems, cooling systems, starter motors, belts and associated components
Work on batteries, battery chargers, water jacket heaters, starter cables and key switches
Diagnose and interrogate control systems including DSE, ComAp and DEIF
Work on changeover systems and Automatic Mains Failure (AMF) systems
Assist with engine rebuilds and top-end overhauls
Assist with control panel upgrades, modifications and retrofit projects
Complete service reports and accurately record work carried out
Liaise directly with customers and provide a professional service at all timesEssential Experience
Previous experience working within the generator service or power generation industry
Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding ability
Experience servicing, maintaining and repairing generator systems
Ability to manage your own workload and prioritise jobs effectively
Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider engineering team
Strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to fault diagnosis
Self-motivated with a willingness to develop your technical knowledge
Strong attention to detail and high standards of workmanship
Professional and confident when dealing with customers
