Geological Technician

About the Role

Our client is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Geological Technician to support their exploration and mine geology teams in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, UK . This hands-on role involves assisting geologists in field and laboratory work, collecting and processing geological samples, and maintaining accurate records. You will be instrumental in ensuring the quality and integrity of geological data gathered from exploration sites and operational mines. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of geological principles, strong practical skills, and a keen eye for detail, contributing to the success of geological projects by providing reliable technical support and data management from the field and lab environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist geologists with field mapping, surveying, and sample collection (rock, soil, core).
• Prepare and log drill core samples for analysis and storage.
• Perform basic laboratory tests and assays on geological samples.
• Maintain detailed and accurate logs of field and laboratory data.
• Operate and maintain geological field equipment and laboratory instrumentation.
• Assist in the preparation of geological maps, cross-sections, and reports under supervision.

Requirements

• HND or Foundation Degree in Geology, Earth Science, or a related discipline.
• 1-2 years of practical experience in a geological or mining support role.
• Basic understanding of geological concepts and terminology.
• Proficiency in using basic field equipment and common software (e.g., MS Office).
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
