Geotechnical Civil Engineer

About the Role

Our client, a respected engineering firm based in Sunderland , is seeking a dedicated Geotechnical Civil Engineer to bolster their specialized team. This role focuses on the analysis, design, and supervision of ground engineering aspects for a diverse range of construction projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial developments. You will conduct site investigations, interpret soil mechanics data, and provide robust engineering solutions for foundations, earthworks, and slope stability. The position is ideal for an engineer passionate about the complexities of soil behavior and its impact on infrastructure, working within a team committed to delivering safe and innovative geotechnical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and manage site investigations, including boreholes, trial pits, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze geotechnical data and prepare detailed interpretative ground reports.
• Design foundations (shallow and deep), retaining walls, and earthworks for various construction projects.
• Assess and mitigate risks associated with ground conditions, such as settlement and slope instability.
• Provide technical advice and support to construction teams during the execution of geotechnical works.
• Ensure compliance with relevant geotechnical standards and best practices in the UK.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software such as Plaxis, GeoStudio, or similar analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
• Experience in managing geotechnical investigations and design projects from inception to completion.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.
