About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated and expert Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to their pioneering geothermal energy initiatives in Cardiff . This role is essential for assessing subsurface conditions, ensuring the safe and efficient development of geothermal resources, and designing the foundational elements of our innovative energy systems. You will work at the intersection of geology and engineering, applying your specialised knowledge to unlock the potential of the Earth's heat as a sustainable energy source, within a company committed to green energy innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise geotechnical investigations , including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
- Analyse soil and rock mechanics data to assess ground conditions, stability, and bearing capacity.
- Design foundations, earthworks, and tunnel support systems for geothermal power plant infrastructure.
- Develop geotechnical risk assessments and mitigation strategies for subsurface exploration and construction.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and provide technical recommendations to project teams.
- Oversee construction activities related to earthworks and foundations to ensure compliance with design specifications.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, with exposure to energy projects .
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation design principles.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software for analysis and design (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio).
- Experience in designing and interpreting results from site investigations.
- Familiarity with relevant British and international geotechnical standards and codes.
