Geotechnical Engineer - Mine Stability

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their advanced mining operations based remotely but supporting projects near Leeds . This critical role focuses on ensuring the stability and safety of mine workings, from open pits to underground excavations. You will perform in-depth analyses of rock mechanics, soil properties, and groundwater conditions to design and implement effective ground support systems and hazard mitigation strategies. This position is ideal for an experienced geotechnical specialist who is passionate about applying engineering principles to complex geological challenges and contributing to safe, sustainable mining practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and laboratory testing programs.
• Perform stability analyses for open pit slopes, underground excavations, and tailings dams.
• Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems (e.g., rock bolts, shotcrete) and excavation methods.
• Develop and implement ground monitoring plans and interpret monitoring data.
• Assess seismic risks and design mitigation measures for mining-induced seismicity.
• Provide technical guidance and support to mine planning and operations teams.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering , with a focus on mining applications.
• Expertise in rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and numerical modeling software (e.g., FLAC, Plaxis).
• Strong understanding of open pit and underground mining methods and their geotechnical implications.
• Experience with seismic monitoring and analysis in a mining context.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise technical reports.
