Geotechnical Engineer - Mining Focus

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialized Geotechnical Engineer with a strong focus on mining applications to join their established consultancy in Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is crucial for ensuring the stability and safety of underground and open-pit mining operations. You will provide expert analysis and recommendations on soil and rock mechanics, slope stability, and ground support systems, playing a key role in risk mitigation and project success. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and analyses for mining projects, including soil and rock mechanics testing.
• Develop and implement ground support designs and stability assessments for underground excavations and open pits.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, technical specifications, and design recommendations.
• Provide on-site technical support and supervision during critical construction and mining phases.
• Collaborate with mining engineers, geologists, and project managers to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall mine planning.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in geotechnical engineering and their application to the mining sector.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with significant exposure to the mining industry .
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as Plaxis, Rocscience (Phase2, Slide), or similar.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and slope stability principles.
• Experience in numerical modeling and ground behavior analysis.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
