Geotechnical Engineer - Mining Operations

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join their vital mining operations in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK . This role is crucial for ensuring the safety, stability, and efficiency of our subsurface extraction activities. You will be an integral part of the engineering team, contributing expertise in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and ground support design. The successful candidate will work closely with site managers, geologists, and safety officers to mitigate risks and optimize operational procedures, playing a key role in maintaining the high standards of our mining operations .

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed site investigations and analyze geological and geotechnical data.
• Design and implement ground support systems and slope stability measures for mining sites .
• Monitor ground conditions and assess risks associated with excavation and underground development.
• Develop and maintain geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring programs.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance on all matters related to geotechnical engineering in a mining context.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and present findings to project stakeholders.

Requirements

• BEng or MEng degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering , with a significant portion in the mining sector .
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for modeling and analysis (e.g., Plaxis, Rocscience suite).
• In-depth understanding of soil and rock mechanics principles and their application to underground mining .
• Experience with site investigation techniques and interpretation of borehole and survey data.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
