Geotechnical Engineer - Mining Operations

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join their dynamic mining operations team based in Leicester . This role is critical for ensuring the stability, safety, and efficiency of our underground and surface mining projects. You will be instrumental in assessing ground conditions, designing support systems, and mitigating geological risks. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and their application in complex mining environments. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological and geotechnical site investigations, including data analysis and interpretation.
• Design and implement appropriate ground support systems for mine excavations, tunnels, and shafts.
• Monitor and assess slope stability, subsidence, and seismic activity in and around mining sites.
• Develop and review geotechnical risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Provide technical guidance and support to mine planning, construction, and operational teams.
• Utilize specialised software for geotechnical modelling and analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on mining applications .
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as FLAC, Plaxis, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of soil and rock mechanics principles and their practical application.
• Experience with site investigation techniques and laboratory testing interpretation.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
