Geotechnical Engineer - Mining Projects

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to provide crucial support for their extensive mining projects based in and around Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire . This role focuses on assessing ground stability, designing support systems, and mitigating geotechnical risks associated with mine development and operations. You will work closely with mine planning and construction teams to ensure the safety and integrity of underground and surface mining structures. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations, including drilling, testing, and monitoring, to assess ground conditions.
• Perform detailed geotechnical analyses for open-pit and underground mine excavations, slopes, and tailings facilities.
• Design and specify ground support systems, excavation sequencing, and dewatering strategies.
• Develop risk assessments and mitigation plans for geotechnical hazards.
• Monitor ground behaviour during construction and operation, providing timely recommendations.
• Collaborate with mine planners, geologists, and construction engineers to integrate geotechnical recommendations into project designs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably within the mining or heavy civil construction sector.
• Proficiency with geotechnical analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, GEOSTUDIO).
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and slope stability principles.
• Experience with site investigation techniques and laboratory testing interpretation.
